  1. Hey there, folks -

My system fails to recognize my Canon Elura 2MC DV cam when I plug it in to my firewire card - Windows 98 asks for best drivers, but I thought 1394 devices were supported under DirectX 8.1.

Any ideas as to what I need to do to get my system to recognize my camera?

    System specs as follows:

    AMD Thunderbird 1.2 GHz
    512 MB DDR RAM
    30 GB master drive
    11 GB slave
ATI DV Wonder IEEE 1394 firewire card (NOT TV Wonder...)
    Canon Elura 2MC DV camera

    Thanks very much,

    Marmot

  2. Marmot, one question-you mentioned having Windows 98. Do you have Windows 98 "First Edition",(the original version), or Windows 98 Second Edition?
IF you have Win 98 1st Edition, then I have some bad news. Firewire devices are incompatible with Windows 98 1st Edition. You'll need to obtain Windows 98 2nd Edition,Windows 2000/XP for firewire support.

  3. Bah - I was afraid of that. I have the non-SE Win98, but had hoped that there were updated drivers that would allow me to use the 1394 devices.

Well, I guess I'll just have to wait for the WinXP Home that I ordered, and hope the upgrade doesn't kill me.

Thanks very much for the help, Hong Kong Phooey!

    Cheers,

    Marmot

  4. No problems Marmot!
Thank Microsuck for the lack of firewire support in Windows 98 1stEd. I'm have it too! It also means a lot of more recent higher end capture cards,& video-editing programs won't work fo the very same reason.
You might be able to pick up Win98 2nd Ed. second hand,(no pun intended).
Be sure to find XP updates for EVERYTHING & pray that it works!!
