I downloaded an avi file with two audio tracks English & German. When you play the file it plays both tracks at the same time.

I found some info about playing it with only one audio track using Graphedit but so far it hasn't worked. Can you make standalone files like that that I can convert to S(VCD)?

    http://www.doom9.org/dual-audio.htm

I tried to convert the avi file using DVD2SVCD and just selecting one audio track one but the result was just some terrible noise.

Is there a way to split this whole thing in one video and two audio tracks so I can build my own file in either language?

Assuming they have left and right channels, and that is only the problem. Load into www.goldwave.com delete the channel you don't want and copy the one you do want over to the other channel.

I Guess your assumption was wrong. Not complaining. I tried it and I loaded the avi file and it only showed the left channel audio (mono) and when I played it it was the German Version.

    Same result with VirtualDub.

I guess there's more to it.

When using the Graphedit software I believe the first "track" is the German one. So I guess I have to figure out how the get the English one off it as well and I'd be a happy camper.

mmm, if it was AC3 audio I don't think Gold wave could handle that, if the AVI has the both, I can't see why you don't see them.

If you save out the audio in Vdub, your getting German then ?

What does Vdub say you have File > file information ?

Well when I load the avi file in VDub I get following error maessage (shortened): Inproper VBR audio encoding, .... will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values ......

    Audio Info in File information:

    Audio 48000Hz
    Channels 1(Mono)

Not sure what else you're looking for.
Working is nice, I could watch them do it all day.

Yes it sounds like you have a AC3
Ordinarily you could just save it out converted, but since you are after a channel try the web site below.

    See Besplit and others
    http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/encoding_audiocalc.html#ac3utils

Old methods, but does not split channels.

    Vdub
    Audio > direct stream copy
    SAVE WAV

Rename WAV to AC3 and load into headac3he

Channels 1(Mono) ??? that's the thing I am wondering about, if those channels have been combined, you will never separate them.

Well thanks for you help and suggestions. Tried it and the program says that it cannot load it since the file has no AC3 header.

Maybe there's no other way to get both audio / languages out of the file.
