  1. I was wondering if there was any program out there that would convert my dvd files, specifically .vob, into mpeg-2 so that i could edit them and then reburn them onto a dvd-r media.

TMPG has this capability. Use FILES > MPEG TOOLS > DEMULTIPLEX and strip out BOTH the .M2V and the audio (probably .AC3). Then use FILES > MPEG TOOLS > MULTIPLEX to create a .MPG file.

However, a lot of authoring programs will not accept an .AC3 file, so use HEADAC3HE or the BeSWEET program to convert your audio to LPCM or .MPA.
