completely clueless--> editing videos

ok... im pretty young, so if you wanna help me (pleassssseee) please do not use video terms... dont really know much about video stuff.

how do you edit a video so that the picture is clearer... asf videos rarely have good quality and its really annoying. I can already convert to mpg.... but I dont know how to make them clearer =(. Ive tried using filters with virtualdub and tmpgenc... but didnt work... well, the only thing i can get right is the sharpening tool.

Yes, I know Im making a fool out of myself, cuz most of u ppl already know so much, even newbies... but please help. Im getting so frustrated, and i refuse to copy my videos until its good quality... and now my comp. has more stuff then it can handle.

Crap In - Crap out.
Garbage In - Garbage out.

It is not possible to improve the quality of very hard compressed videos such as ASFs,DivX,RM. And any converting to another format will decrease the quality even more(like converting to vcd mpeg). Do a search for garbage in out for more info.
