  1. Hello everyone,
I actually make videos with my Sony HD HandyCam at occasions in my college for storing 'em as memories.
I rip 'em in .mkv format.

Now, the point is before sharing it with others I want my name in tag, my copyright data, and place and time comments embedded in the video.

I already have made huge videos with over 8 GB a video, and now I want to do this.

How can I edit the metadata of these mkv videos without ripping them again??? And, in fact, for any video file???

    Any software for this???

    Thanks, in advance

  2. Thanks for finding a similar thread..

But, it says you need to mux a new video for that. That I can very well do easily by writing a simple code in ffmpeg.

And, I wanted a way to do the editing without making a new video. Just editing the metadata...

    Any solution??

Have you tried http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvpropedit.html ? It does not create a new mkv.

  5. Thank you very much, once again, Sir.

    The cmd tells:
    The file is analyzed.
The changes are written to the file.
    Done.
    "

But when I play the mkv video in vlc the doesn't show in the top, nor it is shown in Media info in vlc.

I used the exact xml tag as in http://matroska.org/files/tags/dune.xml and tried it on 2 different mkv's, but not much help.

Sir, the way we change tag when we mux a new video with ffmpeg with command " -metadata title="Any thing" ", can't we do without muxing a new video.

Also, I haven't found a way, yet, to put your copyright in videos made by you.

    As a comment says: "https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/326119-%5BSOLVED%5D-How-to-tag-an-mkv-mka-file?p=2023516&viewfull=1#post2023516"

my case is also the same.

I want tags/metadata more evident or more easily accessible than this.

Sorry, Sir, for such demands, but after all why can't we just edit the metadata the way we want it without muxing a whole new video for such a simple edit??

    Any other suggestion, Sir?

  10. One easy way is to write the data in softsubs (e.g. srt text file)

You can toggle on/off , view directly overlayed on the video, control timing of when it appears etc...

ahh, too bad i thought it could change the file properties.

i got the program "my movie library" from zdnet downloads, no adware pre-load. it seems to be a pretty nice simple free movie collection cataloger.

Then, can I embed subtitles in a movie file, with all my data as I wish it to appear ? I'm new to subtiltles part. So, Please suggest a software for this to embed subtitles in an existing video with my desired options, no problem if I need to mux a new video, then. However, in my case the videos shot by me are in my native language and I have no subtiltles for them, still, I can embed fake subtiltles just to add my data..

    Thank you.

Do you have it with you now, and does it work for editing the metadata without muxing a new video?
