  1. Hi every body.
I get avi or mpegs movies and burn them as VCD or SVCD. I split the audio via Virtual-Dub, encode the files with TMPGEnc and burn VCD/SVCD with NERO. Usually I check quality in avi/mpeg and after burning. I also make PC re-start and close all other applications to make sure the memory is fully available for the video processing/burning. Preferably I burn on CD-RW so I can use the CD again after watching the film.
The results look ok on my PC, played via Soft-DVD player. When I play on my stand alone DVD player (Mustek 520) sometimes I get boxes and choppy playback. Also fast forwarding does not work to well, freezes at some position. I have the impression it works better with CD-R than CD-RW. Is there a way to deviate from the standard TMPGEnc settings to overcome the problem? Or is it a general CD problem, lasers in DVD players having problems with CD-RWs ??
    Would appreciate some help/hints.
    Thanks in advance

  2. Some media are read more difficult then others...see if it improves when copied to a cd-r (a make you know works fine !)

Otheriwise it may be that your bitrat is too high for the dvd player...

Look at the DVD Players tab to the left to see if your player supports it and at what KBPS. So 4500 for video and 240 for audio makes 4740 total bitrate...

Don't use MP3 audio on vcd/xvcd but just PCM at 192 or higher bitrate.

If the player keeps playing choppy, it;s either the medium or the bitrate, i other words your dvd player cant spin the cd fast enough...most players have a 2 to 4 speed drive installed. The PC drive is faster and has no problems with mp3 sound and so on.

Keep to the standard..try a VCD first..with about 1150 KBPS total bitrate.
