    Hello !

I try to create Mpeg1 video with TMPEGENC CQ rate control mode. This video would be authored on a DVD-R and played on a DVD Player. Do I need to change the VBV buffer size or leave it on 40kB. Is the VBV buffer size connected with frame size or bit rate?

    Thanks, D.D.G.

If you want to strictly follow dvd specs then for mpeg1 you have to set:

    - CBR
    - 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL)
    - Buffer size max. 327 689 bits (= 40 KB in Tmpeg)
    - 4:3
    - GOP max. 18 frames (NTSC) or 15 frames (PAL)
    - Audio 48 kHz ac3 (NTSC, PAL) and 48 kHz mp2 (PAL) ...

    Hello!

    Thanks for your reply.

The Mpeg1 clip authorized to DVD-R was jerky, and then the DVD player stopped, even i strictly followed the VCD specs ( the automatic VBV setting was worse).
But i found out what satisfy my demand. I encoded the video in mpeg2 352x288 non-interlaced (Pal) CQ70, VBV 224kB and the result is very good. One DVD-R can hold up to 8-10 hours of video (for example archiving).

    Regards, D.D.G.

But Mpeg2 with 352x288 is out of DVD specs ...

So you could have problems on other players ...

    Edit:
No stop, it is inside specs, sorry.

But I would prefer at least 352x576 for better quality
