Can someone please confirm this. I'm using my card to capture directly to VCD resolution, and I've always read you should capture at 400+ vertical resolution to get both fields in a frame, but it seems that this is unnecessary with the RADEON/Rage Theatre chip. I've capture both direct to VCD spec MPEG1, and lossless AVI capture of both fields, and after processing the AVI through TMPGENC, the results appear the same.
Does the RADEON perform the deinterlace onboard when capping MPEG1 at VCD resolution? I believe it does, but would like to hear from the rest of you out there and your experiences with this type of card.
Thanks

MPEG-1 was optimized for CD-ROM or applications at about 1.5 Mbit/sec. Video was strictly non-interlaced (i.e. progressive).

You're saying all MPEG1 boards will capture both fields and create a progressive frame? So you only lose the other field if you capture to something other than MPEG1 (eg. AVI)?

Yes, the ATI AIW card use a chip that will capture both fields in x240 mode, so in reality is does capture x480 and then do a 2:1 vertical reduction. However, the ATI Wonder card does not do this, only the AIW card.

What's the diff between AIW and ATI Wonder - aren't they the same card? Or are you talking about the diff between Rage Theatre and BT878(?) chips./\/\ars /\/\ayhem
