SVCD menu question

Hi all,

I made a SVCD with Ulead DVD Movie Factory, adding a menu. SVCD play fine on my PC using Power DVD ... I can see the menu and make the choices. Unfortunately when I play SVCD on my standalone DVD player (Sony NS700) I can only play the main movie but menu arent displayed (I put SVCD into the player and press play ... the main movie start, without display menu). Any suggestion?

I can't find an NS700 manual, but does that player allow the toggling of PBC (playback control) on/off? If so, try switching it and see if that menu shows up.

I read the user manual of NS700 and the PBC is ever ON by default (isn't possible toggle on/off). In other words if u insert a (S)VCD with menu u should see it!!!

Any tought on this?

I have the same problem on my Pioneer DV444 with SVCD. The menus just do not appear. Although they do with VCD. I use Phillips Video 2.0 toolkit to create the menus. I use VCDEasy to author/burn.

ok, I did some test today ... here the results:

1. I download SVCD PAL Sample from http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm, burn image disk and play on my PC -> menu are displayed and is possible to make the choices. Then I play the same disk on my standalone DVD player (Sony DVP-NS700) -> the main movie start without display menu. (Too bad/sad)

2. I try changing the structure of SVCD disk:
first burn -> Legacy SVCD compatible format -> MPEGAV + ENTRYSVD
second burn -> SVCD standard compliant format -> MPEG2 + ENTRYVCD
No luck!!!

3. I burn a VCD with menu -> this disk works fine either on PC than on standalone DVD player -> PBC are correctly identified!!!

So ... my final question: anybody can play a SVCD with menu on Sony DVP-NS700? If yes, DVD player and/or disk need to be set in particular way?
