  1. I've created all my SVCD's with DVD2SVCD, and all have a title picture and play fine on my dvd player. I have 2 friends who bought the Apex AD-1200 player, and I'd like to give them copies of my SVCD's. However, this player has a problem when there is a title picture, it throws the movie audio out-of-sync (it's well documented on this site). My question is, is there a way I can make copies of my SVCD's for them, but without the title picture? I want to keep the other features I have, such as chapters and subtitles. If I just grab the MPG file into Nero and burn as an SVCD, it works but I also lose the chapters & subtitles.

Does anyone know a way to remove the title picture while keeping everything else? (Re-encoding everything is not a good option)

Please enlighten me: what is a "title picture" and how did it get into the SVCD in the first place. Is this title picture created with the DVD/SVCD authoring tool and if, which tool was used?Or is the title picture the menu's background picture?

  3. The 'title picture' is basically a picture that displays for a few seconds before the actual movie begins. DVD2SVCD has a nice feature that easily grabs the movie cover/poster online and uses that as a title picture, which really looks nice and professional when played. The still picture actually gets converted to a looping mpg and I believe it gets authored as 'chapter 00' but I could be mistaken, as it's all automated.

OK, things are getting clearer. As I have authored a lot of SVCDs, I encountered certain problems in the authoring process, which could induce errors on some players and other problems on different players. If in doubt, I'm not making fanc menus anymore. For example: my player can't play the second chapter in the first tier of a multi tier menu.In such a case I've to introduce a dummy menu entry.
In your case, I'd extract the encoded mpeg and re-uthor this video with a background picture instead of a title image.

  5. Ok, well as far as future SVCD's go, I'm just going to make them without the title picture. That will solve that problem. What I was hoping to do was give copies of my previous SVCD's to my friends w/o the title picture. I should explain that I've always used DVD2SVCD which handles everything itself, so I do not know how to manually author an SVCD. The only other thing I've tried is pulling the MPG off the SVCD and re-burning it with Nero, but then I don't have chapters or subtitles anymore. Oh well, it's their loss haha.

I'd give ULEAD MF a try. It's not completely automatic, but comes very close. You can do menus is a few steps: open your mpegs, choose a menu template, choose BG music or not, define chapters with frames as pictures (quite intuitive, but not very exact), test your menu and burn.
