I want to play around with trying to get my reciever to play dd 5.1 from cds. However, since I don't have a dvd drive, I can't rip ac3 files. Now let me get this straight, I am not asking for a movie! I just want a 5.1 sample preferably less than 5 minutes, it doesn't even have to be from a movie. Just as long as I can test it. Thanks alot.

I have a bunch of Dolby Digital & DTS trailers (all of them) that I got from this website..
http://audio.lukar.net/download.html
They are direct rips right off the DVD so they are clean...
The link is listed under the tools section and I downloaded them all....
This way...you don't have to have a DVD player to rip since they're done already !!!
Jason
P.S. I can help you convert them if you have any problems.. -
thanks for those links. Once I get all those downloaded I just to figure out to burn 'em to CD and try to trick my CD into outputting the ac3 stream to the receiver.

Try here: http://www.geocities.com/hackingcrew2000/techtalk/51trackz.html
Lots of DD5.1 in swedish here http://www.sr.se/multikanal/english/e_index.htm -
Can someone explain how to convert it, or do whatever you need to do so it will read DD 5.1 from a CD? I had no idea you could do that, and no clue how. Thanks.

If you have DVD player software on your computer like PowerDVD etc... you can load all these files in a playlist and watch them all...
Funny...the DTS "symphony" Trailer is 6ch at 1128k/sec !!!!
Damn that's a high data rate just for audio !!! -

Download DTS / Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Tracks
Download && unzip files
burn WAV-files as Audio-CD ("Red Book")
Play in DTS-/DD-System (CD-Player with digital out connected to digital DTS/DD AV-Receiver)
Have Fun
Seems easy enough, I know that DTS music CDs exist that play in any cd with a digital out so this looks like it should work. Once this sample downloads I will try to burn a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio cd. -
Update: I downloaded the Dolby Digital 5.1 samples that are encoded within a .wav file. I burnt the wavs as redbook audio. I then put the disc in my DVD player(RCA 5240P), which is connected to the receiver by a digital coax cable. Make sure if your TV is connected with analog connectors to the DVD player you must turn off the TV, otherwise the digital noise could damage the TV speakers. Since my receiver(Pioneer VSX-D510) has automatic signal sensing, it will automaticially detect the type of input signal. So, when I started the track playing(I downloaded the Jazz sample) sure enough the Dolby Digital indicator on my receiver lit up(not the indicator on my DVD player though because it thought it was outputting Redbook Audio). The sound was great. Even though I don't listen to Jazz, I couldn't help but admire the sound. The surround use was clearly audible and it was amazing because you could almost picture the band performing in front of you and the crowd behind you. Even, without a movie of the band performing I could almost imagine the band in front of me. Up next I will try DTS.
One think I'm not sure of yet is how to convert the ac3 files into a wav that is burnable. I tried taking an ac3 file and renaming the extension to .wav but no program would let me burn it. Anyway, I just got to thinking about this. I think that if you could put a 5.1 into a wav, surely we could figure out a way to put a 5.1 track into a SVCD track. -

I have 2 rare DTS discs...
one is a 1998/99 DTS Audio sampler which sounds incredible !!!
the second is a DTS theater disc called "Just the Ticket" demo....but I've yet been able to do ANYTHING with this disc....
If you want to see pics of the discs, I'll post them and if somebody wants a full ISO of the discs to play with, then I'll rip them and post them on my server !!
Does anybody know how to do these discs ???
Thanks,

Hey Jason, those DTS discs look like a real treat. Check out the link that Xylocaine put up, they have some great info. The other day I created a "supersong" consisting of the following:
Front Left - Cypress Hill - Rock Superstar
Center - Rage Against the Machine - Calm Like a Bomb
Front Right - House of Pain - Jump Around
Surround Left - Default - Deny
Surround Right - Creed - Weathered
LFE - THX Subwoofer Test
It was quite hilarious to listen to.
If you could post those ISOs I would be quite appreciative. I am on dial up but I could get one of my high-speed friends to nab 'em for me.
The program "Soft Encode" is quite good. Very easy to use. It is easier than BeSure but it does not have DTS though. -
I'll post them up later tonight...and start a new topic on the subject..
Funny thing is with this other DTS disc I have....there's a program called dts.exe..
When I run it...a DOS window comes up and runs for about 5 secs with all types of cool stuff...then it closes out....
On this disc are some really cool demos but I can't figure it out...
Once I up the files to my server (slow at 128 out), you can snag them at OC3 speeds !!!
