    Hello,

I have converted a movie to DVD format (VOB files) but the stereo is in 2.1 channel sound, how can I convert it to 5.1 and then reauthor the DVD so that it has 5.1 sound instead?

What programs or tools do I need?

    Thanks,

    Ian

You can, but it's really a lot of work for not much gain. Most set top players do a decent job with 2 channel stereo converted to 'pseudo surround' sound. Here's a few threads that may give you some ideas:

I'll modify the script to make it work with AC3 2 channel source files. Lemme know.

    Steps you'll need to take:

    1) Demux the audio and video from the VOB files - DGindex would prolly work well

    2) Determine if there is delay that needs to be addressed on the 2 channel AC3

    3) Run 2-5.1 upmix script

    4) Remux the 5.1 soundtrack with the .m2v video file that was created by DGindex

Yeah, a fair amount of work. The script I put together was designed to create a 5.1 audio track for folks who wanted to create DVDs out of their AVI files.

I've converted the VOB files and am using them in Videostudio 11 Plus, I have ticked the Surround Sound option and it is re-rendering it all as we speak.

The only problem is that it is now over the standard DVD size limit, can I use software to shrink the resultant video file to fit a single DVD?

I'll let you know what happens when the rendering is complete.

    Many thanks.

There is a piece of software called, funnily enough, DVD Shrink, which does exactly what it's name suggests.
