someone needs to read the guide before asking questions that are answered in the guides.

ive never herd of converting dvds to vcds using a dv camera and a firewire card... if there exists a way, then ill admit im stupid.

the closest thing i can think of is, capturing from your dvd player using a capture card.

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong. Do you mean CAPTURING a dvd movie using your dvd player thru your dv cam because you have a firewire card and your dvd player has no firewire connection? If I am right, your dv cam should have both vide/audio input so that you can connect your dvd player to your dv cam and you can use it as your bridge as if you were directly recording to it.

  5. Wouldn't the copy protection (fading in and out brightness levels) kick in and ruin your party? This is the same reason why you can not record DVDs to VHS tape.

Yes the macrovision causes the usual problems and in some cases the camcorder will not let you pass the protected material.

It is really a lot easier to just rip the DVD and avoid another conversion step.
