I try to burn a CDRW with a converted AVI and nero will say it completed successfully but when I try to play the CD it will not and when I look at it it is empty.
Can someone help with this ? I am very new to burning and encodeing

Don't use Nero for any conversion, use TMPGEnc and load a VCD template. First check any AVI's with Vdub, to make sure there are no junk frames.
When you have the fully compliant .mpg you can then use Nero to make the VCD on a good quality disk.
You need to know if your player will play CDR-W, and not just CDR -
OK I tried the TMPGnc. I convereted the file first. I then used Nero to burn the file onto a CDRw. Went a lot quicker this time. It still does not play. In fact my CD / DVD player on my PC ejects the disc and will not even read it. THe DVD is CDR and CDR W because i play other things on it that are written on them.
I have tried a couple of times and everytime it is the same, disc can not be read and when I use NEro to look at it it says that it is empty.
Any ideas ? -

Here is my equipment : CD-rw is Iomega CDRW 6402EXT- B, PC DVD player is Pioneer DVD-Rom DVD-106 and my home DVD is Thomson DTH-5000. With the utilities I have used they say I can play VCD's on the PC DVD and the home DVD.
I really think I am not making the CD correctly. I select the VCD option in Nero and it says it will convert it to the proper fomrat. I put in a CDRW and create a menu with NEro. It burns and says it finished successfully. When I put it in either on my DVD drives it does not work.
Anything else I can try or post for help I will -
I have never known Nero ever to refuse an mpg which has been created with a TMPG VCD template, provided VCD compilation is chosen in Nero. If this is really what is happening, I think it's a case for the X-Files I'm afraid. 8) Your player is supposed to accept VCD, but Nero should not be wanting to convert a VCD-compliant mpg, which is what TMPG produces.

Is the non-compliant box checked or unchecked in Nero?
(btw....I use VCDEASY which I think is a far better software)"Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -
Which non-compliant box is that? If it's the box accessed through the Video tab, this is only applicable if Nero is encoding. If it's the box to allow you to ignore a non-compliant mpeg, then this should not happen if it's been run through a TMPG VCD template.

I read the earlier post and realized that the encode was done with TMPGE...not Nero....my mistake.Again!
Geez...banjazzer ,you'll need to stop picking up on my faux-pas's ...your giving me a complex!"Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -

Meaning...your CD-RW laser is dead..try making data cd-rw see if it hold audio.
Nero should not reject VCD MPEG.
Try reading in CD-R and DVD drive on PC ?
Is CD Finished...? (check in nero burnbox)
Are you burning or just doing a testrun ?
greetz.
