  1. Can anyone help me please. I recently purchased a dvd rewriter and for some reason it can not see a disk in the drive if it is a -r or -rw. Can someone tell me if it is possible to use this media on the above model please?

  2. Isn't philips a +R +RW company? The -R -RW will probably NOT work.

The company has information on their site yes?

  4. Not much info in English on the net - see http://www.dvdplusrw.org/cgi/ikonboard/printpage.cgi?forum=1&topic=107

    www.google.com & search.

Probably the retailer you bought from is wrong or ignorant.

  5. The 1208 drive is a +RW(No +R)/CD-R/RW write/read. It does read -R/RW but you might have problems reading the correct data size. I would not try to copy a DVD-R/RW disk with this drive as the read source drive.

Some first-generation DVD+RW drives cost US$200. It is still twice the price of some of the latest CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drives. $100 cheaper than second-generation DVD+RW drives that are capable of writing to DVD+R in addition to CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD+RW.

Some retailers will surely still try to sell their first-generation DVD+RW drives for the price of second-generation ones, or even more.

  7. Thank you all very much for your help. I purchased that drive in Scotland after good old sales man told me I would have no problems with compatibility with media and that some of the staff had bought them and had no problems with it.

Silly me for being gullable. Anyway after long phone calls to store manager decided to give me back my money and I have now purchased a pioneer 104 drive as at least I will be able to get the media at a cheaper price than the £15 they were looking for the +RW disk each.

One thing I dont understand is why Philips would not reply to emails. I send them 2 emails 1 over 2 weeks ago but they have still not replied to date. Good customer service??

Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know situation sorted and thanks for your input it has been much appreciated!
