I just downloaded a movie and I've been trying to burn this Damned movie to a VCD for a while now. This is my very first DVD, and I've done everything several times to no avail.

It plays in my VCD supporting DVD player for 2 seconds and stops. I checked out everything possible, and I don't know what it is. I'm at a total loss.

I checked VirtualDub's File Info, and found out that it's 14.9** fps. Is that the problem?

I tried burning another Video, and it's having the same problem. This video was exactly 30 fps.

Any reply is welcome, even if you just say, "Fisch, your an idiot"

Also, your opinions / poll :

What CD-R(W) do you use when burning CD's?

    Thanks all!

You know that vcd's have to be in a certain format...right?
    All standard VCD's use mpeg1 352x240, 1150 kbps 23.97 fps.
On non-standard the size(352x240) and bitrate are usally altered.
So...just any file can't be burned..Get a VCD standard file...burn it in VCD format (yep certain format to) ...using Nero or some others ...and see if that works

Vcds use 23.976fps or 29.97fps and cannot use anything else. Yes 14.9fps is a problem. All you can do is transcode it to a higher framerate, though I don't think the results will be very good. If you want to give it a shot get TMPGenc in the tools section.

Yeah, I know that everything has to be in a certain format. I even browsed the site yesterday, and found a Premade VCD or something like that. I burned it using Nero, and it still won't work on my DVD player.

I have no Idea what's going on. Anyway, thanks for your help. But seriously, has anyone ever had that stupid problem where it plays and stops for 2 seconds?

No ....I was going to say are you shure your palyer will play VCD's, CDR's or CDRW's....My friends Pioneer says right on front that it supports VCDs...but manual says that it will not play CDR or CDRW....So it only plays Factory pressed VCD's?? What the @# good is that? But you said yours would at least start playing...his just says" no disc...or no media" or something to that effect.

They are some mpeg1 movies on Kazaa...look for movies by BertNErnie.
I'll also put up a few short clips tonight (5-10 mb) under that name so you dont have to wait so long for down load....then use Nero > check VCD as type when burning and disable compliancy. Nero will burn into correct format. ...I always test stuf on a CDRW so I dont waste a bunch of CDR disc's ....but my player will play anything ..yours may not.

    Dont forget 25 fps (PAL)......

14fps converted to NTSC or PAL is going to be a jerky as Fook

I've actually encoded this 14 fps movie to 29.97 fps, and it works great. I dont konw what's up...

I have a Pioneer DV-C503 and I've played a VCD that my friend made, and it worked just fine... That's what intrigued me, and I'v started (or tried) to make VCDs.

Once this is done encoding, ill Check that Nero > Check VCD and make sure everything is set.

    I don't have Kazaa, I use Morpheus. I guess I'll downlaod Kazaa.

    Again, thanks all.

Click that link at the top left of the page, "what is...vcd", there is a sample near the top of the linked page that you can download.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

When you open nero..choose VCD as what you want to do..that opens a dialoge screen for you to select options for that VCD... first tab ...has a box near the bottom ...says check compliancy or something like that...uncheck that box. Second or third tab has stuff about menus...
If you dont want to change anything else...click on new in right corner.
That opens the screen to select what you want on the VCD....on left is whats on the VCD on right is a file explorer....select files on right to put on VCD by draging them to the left......

  13. Still isn't working though, I mean...

    I've got a Mitsumi CR-4804TE Burner, It's a crappy P.O.S, but I know it's capable of making VCD's.

I know that Memorex CD-RW should work for my tests.

I know that my Pioneer DV-C503 plays VCD's, because it detects them and Says "VCD"...

So where the heck am I going wrong here?
