Hello,
I see some places offer Pioneer DVR-A04 external
solution by putting it in an IEEE 1394 firewire box
with power supply.
(e.g. Hyper Microsystems http://www.hypermicro.com/store/index.htm)
Is it a reliable solution or better off going for QPS brand?
And if there is any reason I should be looking for an USB 2.0 interface
instead of Firewire, please let me know.
Thanks,

I am currently daisey-chaining a Sony CD/RW, Maxtor 80 gig hard drive, a Pioneer A-04 DVD-R/RW and a Sony TRV 30 camera to my laptop and have had no problems at all. But, to be honest, I don't have them all running at the same time. Maybe the camera and the hard drive and then the hard drive and one of the RW drives, but still no problems yet. (Win98se/750mhz/128 megsRAM)

Hi BobMoyer,
I am using it with laptop too.
What brand of firewire card do you use with your laptop?
What is your recommendation for firewire pcmcia card.
Thanks,

Sorry, I can't help you on that one...I have a Sony laptop and the firewire port is built in. Good luck.

By the way, whatever card you decide on make sure the documentation specifies that the pcmcia card is "OHCI" compliant. Not sure what those letters mean but if it is not OHCI compliant then some of the devices that you connect to it may not work properly.
