  1. I noticed on the xvcd creation chart that an xvcd can hold 35-100 minutes on one disc. I know for a fact that I can hold more than 100 minutes on one disc. They play fine on my computer. My question is, will these movies be compatable on a dvd player that is compatable for xvcd/svcd. I just played an xvcd on my friends dvd player (sorry I don't know the brand) and it seemed to speed the movie up (or in other words, try to play the whole movie in 80 min even though it was a 95 min movie. But I tried it on a panasonic at the store and it worked fine from what I could tell considering the sound wasn't hooked up. It would be appreciated if someone could give me some info. thanks

PS. What is the most overall compatable dvd player to buy for a good price?

XVCD is not a standard - it is a term used when we want to describe a VCD which does not comply with the exact VCD specifications. (e.g. a higher or lower bitrate than 1150kbps)

DVD players are not obliged to support any XVCD video so it is often trial and error to see what will play on your DVD player. You have already seen that your XVCD was incompatible with your friends player but worked on the one in the store.

The DVD player compatibility list on this site should give you more of an idea as to what each player is capable of. Off hand I know that the Apex players (bottom end of market) and Pioneer players (mid market) are both rated highly for their compatibility with different types of XVCD.
