I have a Norton Ghost floppy and some 2 GB .gho files. Biggest file is 2,124,414,976 (1.97 GB).

Can I create a bootable DVD-ROM with Nero, using the Ghost floppy and the .gho files?

What's the partition size limitation of the OS?

The total disc size would be much less than 4 MB and like I said the largest file is under 2 GB.

    Would this method work? Link!

Oh, I should mention that I only have an internal DVD-ROM drive as the boot ROM drive.

My CD-RW and DVD-R burners are both external Firewire.

I guess, you'd have to set your dvd-rom first in the boot list.

Haven't tried it yet. I've been authoring slide-show picture DVDs for my family. I'll try to get to it this week.

Greg, my DVD-ROM is the first in the bootlist after the floppy, so that shouldn't be a problem.

  6. Eug....not sure if it is the same as cd drives, but I know that to boot from a cd drive the cd drive itself must be bootable....is your dvd rom drive?....t

  7. Hi everyone - I thougth I'd waken this thread up as it's similar to the info I need to know.

Before going out and purchasing a DVD burner and DVD-ROM drives for rather a lot of PC's

Can you make bootable DVD disks?
If Yes does the majority of PC's that have a DVD reader allow booting from that type of disk?
If Yes I assume the disk is written in DVD-ROM format. If not please advise.

If the answers to the above are yes will a pioneer A04/104 do the biz for me.

    Thanks in Advance

  8. On my (not at all new) motherboard, like most others, the BIOS setup allows the user to specify which devices and in which order the BIOS will go through them at power-up and try to boot. I sometimes boot from my CD/DVD drive, using the XP install CD (OEM version).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  9. Thankyou

I'm aware you can boot CD's we use them for machine recovery. The fact you can boot from them in a DVD drive is promising.

The basic question still exists can you make bootable DVD's?

  10. Hi Peoples!

I've got an Pioneer A03, and i will get an A04 next weeks.
I've found 2 Software Packages, who could write bootable DVD.

    1. Nero
    2. Instant CD/DVD

i've tested both, but i couldn't boot from the DVD's

i've burned 6 dvd's in different constellations, from Floppy images, from Floppy Drives, from Win98 Bootdisk's and from a Norton Ghost 7.5 Bootdisk.

When anybody burned them succesfull, contact me pease!
