  1. is there a program or a way to know what field order a video file has? i'm ripping dvd's and encoding with tmpge to dvd . most of the time its field A but once in a while its B. it sucks wasting dvd-r's .

    Bitrate viewer by Telco can tell you the field order. http://www.tecoltd.com/bitratev.htm

    Or you can actually just use TMPGenc. Go into the advanced tab and double click on the deinterlace filter. Set the filter to Even-Odd field (field.)
    Scroll through the movie and if it looks ok then you have the correct field order set. If it plays a few frames then jumps back a few then your field order is incorrect and you can switch it in the advanced tab.

    If you already have encoded video with the wrong field order set you can reverse it using pulldown.exe.
