  1. I'm converting some video from various sources to MiniDV then 'converting' the edited a/v to MPEG2/SVCD...

    What progs do you suggest?

    Is there a how-to?

What is the best codecs for miniDV & MPEG2?

To achieve the best quailty, using either software or hardware, suggestions...?

    Thanks

OK I am not new to creating SVCDs as I have been doing this for 18 months or so, but I have only just started creating SVCD from MiniDV.

    My Process goes as follows:
    1. Edit my movie in Premier 6.0
    2. Out put the Movie to File Server
    3. Use TMPGEnc to encode to SVCD from the file server (I am still testing different templates)
    4. Burn using Nero

I have never used hardware Mpeg2 so I can't comment on that, but the results from MiniDV to SVCD using TMPGEnc are very good.

With Premier I am using the Export Timeline then Movie. Now I am still exporting it as a Premier MiniDV file, but I am exporting it to a file server (this basically avoids making a large file).

Then using TMPGEnc I simply select the temp file created by the file server and encode to either SVCD or CVD.

As far as CVD goes, I am very new to this, but I did create an encode from a MiniDV source that would blow you away. Now this is the best part, my PC Crashed not long after and I lost the template. I still have the file, but I can't seem to be reproduce the same quality unless I go to DVD res. Strange hey? In any case I am trying to back track to see If I can re-create the CVD again.

I will post if I succeed.

PS: Are you using PAL or NTSC?

  5. Hello,
My original intent was to use NTSC, but I'm looking at PAL too. I like the fact that NTSC fps is higher, but PAL's horizontal resolution is higher. I'll probably try both and compare the results.
I've read a 'little' about CVD, I'd have to find out more about it before I can feel comfortable enough to try it.

    Thanks Again
