  2. Many DVD players aren't designed to read CD-R/W media and do so erratically / poorly / not at all.

You will first have to work out which brands of media work in your player. You can do this by having a look at the compatibility list on this site, or burning some audio CDs and trying them out in your player.

Then, you will have to correctly author and burn your VCDs for them to work. There are guides here on how to do this as well.

    Good luck.

  4. Do the princo media work?

In some cases, even very subtle things (e.g., burn speed, different brand CD burner) seem to have an effect on some DVD players.

  6. Confusing the say the least...

Is this even for the same batch of Princo media?

BTW, for these DVD players, CD-RW often works better so you could give these a go.

im guessing when you burned your own "VCDs" that you didnt go through the steps to burn a proper vcd, instead you just burned a straight data file with ur .avi

Tr3, Kt22 is right. My DVD, Hitachi 315U, states it does not play CD-Rs. But my compatibility listing has some owners state that it will play VCDs, on such media as Princo and Great Quality CD-Rs. I have been trying to make VCDs using the guides here along with Princo with no luck. So I must give him the benefit of the doubt. There is a way to burn VCDs on some noncompatible DVDs, it is just he nor I have found the right way yet. And I attempt to burn with CDRAO (VCDEasy, haha).
