Does anyone have experience with the ADS Instant DVD USB device? I'm thinking about getting one but I'd like to hear from some owners. There sell a lot of used ones on eBay, which makes me think they don't work well if people are dumping theirs...
Any comments?

I had one for a week and returned it. Nothing but problems.
Others may report success though. After all, they have to be selling SOME of them!

There has been alot of debate about USB capture devices. Many say that USB ports are not fast enough to transfer good quality movies. I think it would be best to go with Firewire or PCI.

I have one USB Instant DVD and the only problem with it was that the sound out of the IDVD had to connect to the microphone in in my creative audigy player (that wasn't explained in the manual) also the support for this product is a nightmare (in order to receive some kind of answer i had to do an e-mail spam - send at least 25 messages). The video quality for me is very good and it should improve if you use a good video source.

Thanks to all who replied!
I can see where USB may not have enough bandwidth. I used to have a little USB audio capture device called the iMic. Even though it's a Mac product it worked on the PC. It's a $50 device but it is a wonderfully clean audio digitizer. The only problem was PC's have these little drop outs that ruined the wave file. Oh well...
Liam, you mentioned that the ADS had to be connected to your Audigy mic port. I also have an Audigy... are you saying that the audio is MONO and not stereo? -
To be honest i really don't know, the jack that is used to connect to audigy mic in is stereo but i don't know if the mic in connector in audigy only accepts mono sound. I'm sorry i can't provide you more info on this matter but i'm also new in videocapturing. But i can tell you that this product has a very good video quality and if you need i can post some video samples so you can decide whether or not to buy this product.

Liam,
I appreciate the response. I hope I can repay the kindness someday.
Can you post a small sample? I would like to see it. I am also wondering about things like, when you fast forward through SVCD captures, does the sound become out of sync?
Doc -
Doc,
I will post the samples this night on my personal website and you will have
to do the following:
To access files type in your browser:
http://www.realpremier.com/sample_video.htm
then select "save as" and the location where to save the files in your harddisk.
About your question of fastforward video files at least for me i didn't have that problem (i've been using nero and vcdeasy 1.1.1 to write the video cds and supervideo cds - the best way to ensure that is to always use the latest version of drivers and programs).
Best regards,

Hi!
I've completed the upload of files and you can now download the video samples that i provide in:
http://www.realpremier.com/sample_video.htm
Samples are:
VCD - 4,53 Mb / 30 Seconds of video captured from tv
SVCD - 8,97 Mb / 30 Seconds of video captured from dvd
5Mb DVD - 5,03 Mb / 10 Seconds of video captured from dvd
P.s.: Remember the better the video source the better the resulting video file will be.
Best regards,
Liam Kinkaid
