    ADS Tech Instant DVD

I have gotten the software installed for my USB Instant DVD. Now when I bring up PixeDV and attempt to capture I get an error stating 'Capture Box not Recognized'.

    Any help would be appreciated..

It's been a while since I used my ADS box, but if I recall a PAL/NTSC issue can cause a "not recognized" error. Make sure the PixeDV app is set to which ever format your source is.

They do work very well, and the capture quality through S-video is excellent.

Also just try power cycling the unit, and/or unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable. Sometimes it needs a little stimulus to do whatever it does to handshake with the app.

Another issue is that these boxes are prone to overheating. Make sure that the ventilation slots are unobstructed, and that will help stability a great deal, particularly at higher bitrates.

Okay I found the issue. Somewhere out there someone has a Mac version attempting to use it on a Windows PC. And I have the windows version. I had both at one time but then when moving they got misboxed so I sold the Mac Version by accident.

So one last question, is there anyway to make the Windows Version Mac Compatibile? Or am I out of luck and just need to buy a new capture device.

If a new device then what would be recommended?

    Thanks for the assistance.

One other thing, I would like to be able to my Mac like a Tivo and record shows straight from the TV. So new device that would let me capture TV as well as VHS tapes.

Elgato have the products you'll need. EyeTV 250 Plus.

The Windows version (of the ADS box) is not compatible with the Mac software. I know this from first-hand experience. Dump it. Even when I had the Mac version (which they had sent me for review a number of years ago), it would begin pixelating as soon as the chips in the case got hot. The only workaround at that time was to remove the cover and let a fan blow over the board. What a piece of....

El Gato's products are very nice. I do wish they had a hardware-based MPEG4 converter, however.
