this is really annoying me! i've burnt discs with my pioneer 104 and my ps2 wont play them. it's a model scph-30004. can anyone get these ps2's to play dvd-r/rw's? i've tried installing the new driver 2.10 and still no success. could it be the authoring and buring programs i use? (ulead dvd workshop and nero) my wharfedale 750 which supposedly can play these discs too, wont play them either. what am i doing wrong? should i try turning off the buffer under protection? please help!

there are also many many many mod chips and USB mods for PS2 that will allow you to play DVDr's so go looking for other stuff tooOk - you got me - i dont know anything - you happy now! -
looks from the page that the messiah mod chip would be the easiest for boot dvdr's

It sound like he wants to a DVD-R movie, not a DVD-R game.

The PS2 can play DVD-R quite happily but there are a couple of pints to mention:
The PS/2 has no MPEG audio decoding hardware (at least the orginal ones didn't, newer ones may do so because of the burgeoning popularity of DVD-R). So, if you have a DVD-R that plays with no sound, thats the problem. You will have to convert to WAV or use an authoring application that converts the audio to WAV (the only consumer level one to do so is MyDVD).
The PS/2 is also VERY fussy about the brand and quality of DVD-R used. I orginally had some problems with some unbranded media made by FMSL of the UK, but their newer media plays without problems. Branded media from Pioneer and TDK all played without problems.
Hope that helps. -
I should point out those comments relate to DVD-R video discs. If you are on about copies of games then you're on to a non starter, it doesn't work without fiddling and some extra hardware.

my problem does'nt seem to have anything to do with media because i've tried using a verbatim dvd-rw and a pioneer dvd-r. the player soulds like it's trying to load them up but gives up and eventully gives a disc read error. it does the same thing for both discs.or maybe it just does'nt like these brands? i don't have a clue.
