    well my friends wanted my to burn him anime but i do not know if a ps2 can play mkv format can someone help me plz & thx

    no. they have a hard enough time with a standard dvd. there is no multimedia player that i am aware of.

  3. I think they made a media center software & you'd have to convert. But it costs as much as a dvd player that could play it. The xbox, old one, can play it with xbmc.

    Currently there are no DVD players that can play MKV files, so that's why people ask about Xboxes and PlayStations for playing back those files.

    You can't play .mkv files on a PS2. There is no software or hardware mod which will allow this. Your only option is to convert the files into a compatible format, namely .avi (divx) which there is software which allows the viewing of these files on the PS2.

    ...and to play AVI, you have to run some kind of media player on the PS2, like SMS, which in turn requires some kind of mod chip (or swap disk or savegame exploit). To make a video playable on a std PS2, you have to create a Video DVD.
