  1. I've noticed lately that a few actual DVD discs are coming with macrovision encoded on them (rather than macrovision being dependent on hardware/software within the player), and that this over-rides macrovision hacks on DVD players - specifically the Singer SGD-001.

I run my Singer through a VCR as a rule and while not recording macrovision on the disc causes no problems. However, when I start to record I get the dreaded light/dark/light image.

I don't have this problem with my old (18 months) XMS 750 as it doesn't have any macrovision electronics in it. The Singer, on the other hand, has macrovision enabled when playing (and recording) these discs whether the macrovision hack is enable or not in the secret menu.

Does anyone know if there's a work-around for this problem? or am I going to have to find an electronics whizz who can disable macrovision on the Singer's motherboard?

  2. I find it hard to believe that the macrovision signal would be encoded in the video...

Perhaps the hack on your player doesn't work in all cases (speculation)??

  3. That's what I thought initially - that I'd made a mistake.....but have a look at

and you'll see the Macrovision logo on the DVD covers.
