I'm ripping and encoding a DVD to SVCD. I've ripped the vobs and loaded them into DVD2AVI. When I do a preview with DVD2AVI the movie is shown to be NTSC 29.97 Interlaced. Do I leave the Field Operation at "none" when saving the project file or switch to Force Film? Then when loading the project into TMPGenc to IVTC and encode do I use the SVCD film template or regular 29.97?
I've had great success so far encoding form "film" DVDs, just unsure even from the guide about what to do with this.
Thankx for any help.

If you have an interlaced DVD, you should not ever use the Force Film settings. Because interlaced video combines two fields to create one frame, you lose vital information when droping to 23.976 fps. If you choose force film, the resulting movie will be jerky due to the missing info.
After leaving the film at the original 29.976 fps you can either encode the film as is (Mpeg-2 does support interlaced video) however you will need a really high bitrate to make it look good, or you can use the deinterlace filter deinterlace the film. The rest of the encoding goes as usual. -
But don't I have to perform IVTC to get rid of the black bars that come up in action scenes?
Thanks for the feedback though.
IVTC seems to really slow down my encode time.
Ah well. As long as it works in the end.
