Double Sided DVD's hold 9.4 GB or whatever. Are they like what is sounds and you can record on both sides, so have to slip a large movie on each side, or can you record a full 9.4 GB on one side of the disc ?

Generally, these days, its hard enough just finding good quality blanks DVDs from any source, but if you spend some time reading prior posts, you'll find that very few people have anything positive to say about their experiances with double-sided media. No you cannot record to them as if they were just one big DVD. They must be removed and fliped over and a new recording started from scratch with all new authoring as if a new DVD had been inserted. There is no such thing as continuing a selection from side to side or disk to disk. Regular DVDs use a layer writing technique that makes the disk look like one big disk but we cannot write multilayer with our recorders.
