  1. Alot of the TV show episodes seem to be in AVI format. I know this might sound dumb (sorry) but is that to have better quality? Can you convert this kinda file to MPG with TMPGENC?? Thanks

Who knows...Lots of people use Divx.AVI cause of the high compression ratio... I usally end up with the same file size in mpg......and if its going to be mpg it might as well be VCD compatable MPEG1.....

And yes TMPG will reencode avi to mpg.

  3. For the most part AVI is easier to edit then MPEG. Most people use DiVX to encode their shows, because it offers the best compression. Since VCDs are a nice way of watching video, most people only want to download a show an watch it on their screen / have a video out from their computer to their tv, DiVX is the easiest way to go. Mpeg and DiVX can have about the same quality, but MPEG tends to have a better picture, but required longer time to encode, and a lot more effort to edit. TMPEG should encode an AVI for to MPG.
