real dvd players have (some) mp3 and svcd support...

i'm not sure if PS2 natively supports VCD or u need to buy some kind of VCD adapter for it, which might end up costing nearly the same as a cheap dvd player

btw, xbox has better dvd playback than ps2

It's actually better to buy a standalone DVD player because not every VCD or DVD will play in PS2 or DC. You can pick up a cheap one and "hack' the player to play region free and disable macrovision. Just crossrefernce the DVD hacks (on this site) and what ever the cheapest DVD players are in your area.

No. You only have to hack your dvd player if you want to view DVDs out of your region. The vast majority of DVD players play vcds(no region coding) and some are so inexpensive right now it's ridiculous. The best thing to do would be to check to see if the unit plays vcds(some player manuals refer to them as "digital video compact discs") The best way to research is to check out the units on this site like an earlier reply said.

there are other models of apex that you might want to look at as well check the dvd compatability list and check out this site for apex www.nerd-out.com it might help you decide which apex to buy.

Also marcusaxavier (I won't say you real name :wink:) is right hack it if you want it to be region and macrovision free.

I have the apex ad-3201 and after rebates at comp usa I paid $50, it plays all media without a problem
