i previously made a vcd mpg for Matrix which was a 578 MB divx and now a 1.32 GB mpg. However yesterday i made a divx for Rush Hour 2 (699 MB) but it only made a 897 mpg. I used the exact same method in both conversions but somehow the bigger dvx gives me a smaller mpg. Anyone else have this problem or know a solution?

Well, according to IMDB, The Matrix runs at 136 minutes, while Rush Hour 2 runs at 90. That difference of 46 minutes of video is directly related to the 400MB or so difference in the MPEG. The size of the AVI doesn't matter when encoding to MPEG. It just means that your copy of Rush Hour 2 is a better rip than The Matrix is. When encoding to MPEG, the bitrate per second that you choose determines how large the end file is going to be.
