    Hello,
a family member brought to me a lot of tapes, connected with the wish to capture them.
As far as I know, one should capture one type of tape after another (and do head cleaning between the types).
I want to avoid problems with my TRV330E-camcorder (better: do the most critical tapes at last), but on some tapes there's no hint which kind they are.
After going through all that stuff, thats the summary (in brackets the amount):

    1-TDK D8 (17)
    2-Sony D8 (16)
    3-TDK MP Hi8 (14)
    4-Sony MP Hi8 (7)
    5-Sony HMP Hi8 (4)
    6-Fuji D8 (3)
    7-TDK Metal E-HG (2)
    8-Fuji ME Hi8 (1)
    9-Fuji Super HG (1)
    10-Konica SuperMP Hi8 (1)
    11-Maxell XR Metal (1)

Any suggestions how to go best through all that stuff, what seems to be most critical?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think the order matters and frankly no one really keeps tabs of what is bad and what is not, A tape that works for you may not work for someone else, It is based on storage condition.

  3. I would capture the tapes in groups of the same brand/type, because the capture settings (and later the post processing) may be specific for a particular brand. Hence you may have to do less re-adjustments than if you swap and capture the brands at random.

The adjustments are related to the type of camcorder, the shooting conditions and camera setting, it has nothing to do with the tape brand.
