Hi Gang,
Well I have what you could say is a small problem ripping Hannibal to Svcd, The problem I am having is the cover states that it is 1:1.85 anamorphic ratio and DVD2AVI says it is 16:9. So I tryed encoding a little using Tmpgenc 2.54- With Video set to 16:9 display and the Video Source set to 16:9 display, when I come to play it it displays black letterbox borders yet when I play my original DVD it as none whilst the tv is set to panoramic. Also if I play the clip through Power Dvd I get a full screen but if I tick keep aspect ratio i get the letterbox again. So how can I encode this Video so I can display it on my Tv in panoramic, with no black borders Just like the DVD plays back?
I was wondering if any of you kind people out there could shed some light on this matter ie. what ratios I should have Tmpgenc set at for certain ratios from DVD sources to achieve this.
Maybe somebody could kindly give me a link or some info into to exactly what the aspect ratios should be set at for DVD Sources using TMPGenc: ie. 16:9, 1:1.85, 2:35.1, 4:3 etc. SO the final output does not display letterboxed on my standalone player.
Thanks.

Did you try this:
encoding as 1:1 or 4:3 and keep aspect ratio? This way the picture is encoded anamorpic. If the source has no black borders, then you movie will also have none.
Please note that this works only correct on widescreen TV sets. Because the movie is anamorpic.(stretched vertically). Your TV will then stretch the picture horizontally, and the aspect ratio is correct again.
I hope this helps,The Dutchman -
here's wut you do
1) on your standalone dvd player's options..make sure you change the display to match your TV...i.e. 4:3 if you're watching on a standard TV (not widescreen TV)...leaving the option as 16:9 widescreen will cause your actual dvds to play vertically stretched...
2) as for your dvd rip...wutever the aspect ratio dvd2avi sez is correct (99% of the time)..thus, for hannibal, it is 16:9
3) in tmgpenc for SOURCE VIDEO SETTINGS, source aspect ratio is 16:9 525 line NTSC (region 1 NTSC DVD), image positioning method is full screen (preserve aspect ratio)
4) in tmpgenc for OUTPUT VIDEO SETTINGS, output ratio should be 4:3 DISPLAY, NTSC..(assuming you have regular TV and not widescreen) -
Thanks to all that replied, I will give that a try poopyhead it seams like the best thing to do. I will let you know how I get on with it...
Cheers!
