You need to re-encode it. SVCD is 480x480(576). VCD is 352x240(288). You are best off demuxing with TMPGEnc, and feeding the resultant audio and video back into TMPGEnc using the corresponding VCD template. There is no quick fix.

  4. what do u mean demuxing? by using the files in tmpeg, is that decoding?

Demux = split the mpeg into separate audio and video files. Once you do that, you have to re-encode the video portion to mpeg1 VCD specs. THEN multiplex (join) the mpeg1 file and the audio file back together to make a VCD.

If you read multiplexing to mpeg1 is how to convert an SVCD to VCD, you either read it wrong, or the post is wrong -- converting an SVCD to a VCD is not as simple as multiplexing an mpeg2 to mpeg1. If it were, there wouldn't be a need for this forum.

If the whole process doesn't take you atleast a couple HOURS, you've done something wrong.

  6. Actually HillJack and banjazzer, doing exactly what jedi describes is a trick used to persuade some DVD players that are not supposed to handle SVCD's to play them. Basically it puts VCD headers on a SVCD video stream so they are not rejected immediatley by the player. As SVCD is mpeg2 and DVD is also, there is no good reason for any player to not handle SVCD, some manufacturers just dont bother including their recognition. I have done this myself to get SVCD's to play on my panasonic RV41, and the warning and smaller file size is exactly what I get, but they play fine. Just because it works for me doesnt mean it will work in your player tho. The only sure way to find out is try it.

    Good luck

  7. My DVD does not play SVCD's but I have used TMPGe's simple multiplex to change the header to a non standard VCD and that works for me. Using the MPEG 1 VCD gives me the same error you describe. Try simple multiplex and select mpeg1 VCD Non-Standard.

  8. thanks guys, but since the file size gets smaller, doesnt that mean the whole movie isnt there? also those steps i described, are they the correct steps?

  9. How much smaller do your files get? Mine go down in size by a few kbytes, not really much. I would guess that VCD has less header info than SVCD to explain the difference, tho it is just a guess. All I can say is I have followed the exact same steps as you described, seen the same warnings and everything played fine!
