  1. Hey all,

Here's my problem. I have a wmv from which I would like to cut a part out and I have been searching the net for a simple solution without reencode. I downloaded asfbin & cut assistant to do just that. Now I have tried to "crop" the section I need but the resulting file is a 2 seconds crop from another part of the movie and I have absolutely no clue why it would do that because I set the start & end times of my section precisely to the frames I want, about 10 times already and it always does the same. This is getting nerve wracking.
I am not a specialist at all with this stuff, I would just like to cut my damn video, so if anybody would be so kind as to help me on my problem or guide me through the process as I obviously did something wrong which I'm totally oblivious to, that would be great!

I downloaded asfbin & cut assistant from the link in here, I set up asfbin.exe in options>settings in cut assistant, I put the -rkf. That's all I did.

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: ok after some digging I seem to get that error: "Decompression error: VCM decoding driver is not available", I can't seem to find that VCM thing on the web though...

  2. OK, so I finally got rid of the error message by installing the VCM and every codec mentioned during the processing are now supported.

Problem is, I now get an output video which is the right frame size, the right length but all black and it doesn't play.

    Here's the log:

    Code:
    C:\Users\XXXX\Downloads>asfbin -i "0155_18M_1840.wmv" -o "C:\
    Users\XXXX\Downloads\0155_18M_1840.cut.wmv" -start 1:55:53.6
    28 -duration 0:23:24.751 -rkf

Since there is no error message I don't think I can go any further than that by myself, any help would be appreciated! By the way I'm on windows 7 if it's any help at all.

I don't use Cut Assist, so I can't help you there; but since your source is a WMV file, why not just use Windows Movie Maker?

  4. Well I do know the "process" would be easier in WMM but I was specific that I wanted to avoid reencoding and that's exactly what WMM does. Asfbin, on the other hand, is supposed to be able to cut without doing anything else, that's what I wanted to keep the best quality possible for the video.
