  1. Basically, I have a couple videos that play in wide screen resolution even though their actual resolution is 720 x 480 (which is not wide screen). The problem is that one of these videos does not and it plays in its proper resolution (720 x 480). I actually prefer that it would play in wide screen like the others. I also notice that on the properties page of the other videos (the ones that play in wide screen) they have "(AR 37:20)" beside the video resolution.

    I can only assume that it means auto-resolution or something like that. What I want to know is how can I make this video play in wide screen automatically like the others. How do I make it have that "(AR 37:20)" just like the other videos have?

    Usually, the only 2 valid ARs (at least if we're talking mpg and Video DVD) is 4:3 or 16:9
    This can be altered with DVDPatcher if needed (again assuming we're dealing with mpg files).

  3. I'm talking about an MKV. This also isn't a matter of DVD play back, its about playing it on my computer. I know that I can manually override the aspect ratio but I want it to be automatic so I don't have to keep changing it... ;_;

    use mediainfo on the files and confirm the AR

    I think there is some confusion here

    mpegs or vobs at 720*480 can be display 4:3 as is or at WS 16:9 which ever is the proper AR to keep perspective of the orginal film

    avi's / mkv's are usually the exact number pixels that were recorded or cropped, to keep the perspective and are displayed at resolution unless you override the AR setting in the player

    are you saying your mkv file is DISTORTED when playing at default and must be changed to play correctly ?

    or you just don't like looking at it in 4:3 ?

    if it was recorded and converted as 4:3 ? you can't make it ws 16:9 without blk bars ( on the sides ) or distortion unless you crop the top & bottom ( to make it wider ) and loose picture
