  1. Hello everyone I’m new to this forum. I just got a Panasonic ag1980 and a dv1000.

On the DV1000, I put a bad tape in, and it jammed it up with the f04 error code.

I was able to get the tape out gently and successfully.

But now every time I turn the unit on, I get the F04 code automatically, and I can't use it.

Is there like a reset feature or something that I have to do?

I unpluggeed it and let it sit overnight and that didnt help.

    What should I do?

    ThanksImage

try doing a factory reset -
To factory reset a Panasonic AG-DV1000P Mini DV VCR, you can use the on-screen menu to navigate to Menu > Option > Initial-Set.
    Steps

    Go to the Menu
    Select Option
    Select Initial-Set

Thank you for the reply. When this unit turns on, it goes straight to the F04 Error and shuts down, leaving me no time to get to the menu to factory reset. But just another piece of information: it was working perfectly before the bad tape was put in, so I'm just hoping some of the motors haven't gone bad. Thanks.

Thanks for the service manual. Is there anything I can specifically test? With the top off, I can see the motor twitch on and then shut off. I can move the whole loading tray freely, so there is no resistance on the motor. What exactly does "check mecha phase alignment" actually mean?

    Thanks again.

  6. the mech phase alignment that means all the gears below have a timing mark (arrow or hole) arrows point at each other or a hole in the gear must be aligned with a hole in the chassis. There should be the right procedure to check that in the SM. I don't know this DV deck specifically

Thanks for explaining, I will try this and report back.

Just checked all of the dots, and they do line up. Im at a loss with this thing, maybe a motor is out or something.

  9. Maybe the coupling of the loading motor is cracked, this happening to me on a panasonic vhs deck not long ago. Solution is to superglue it if that's the case (or better glue , bond kind

Interesting, with the top off, I do see when I move the tape tray that the motor does spin and all the gears look good so it could be a motor problem.

  11. You can to move the mechanism by hand and see what happen. If you can't spot cracked gears and it locks at some point i guess you have found the culprit
