  1. Today I made an mkv file from a hevc mp4 file by using mkvtoolnix and it was saved it to a folder while it was open. After that I made a second mkv file from from another hevc mp4 file by using mkvtoolnix which was saved to the same folder. After that I did alt tab to the folder and I saw that the green progress bar was stuck moving from left to right in the address bar. I discovered that the first mkv file caused the problem because I wasn't able to delete the file so I restarted the laptop and I checked the first mkv file again. It was ok and there was no green progress bar in the address bar and I was able to delete the first mkv file.

    I created a new folder and made a new mkv file from another hevc mp4 file while that folder was open. The same problem happened again. I logged out of windows and I signed back in and I checked the new mkv file. It was ok and there was no green progress bar in the address bar.

    It looks like if I make an mkv file and it's saved to a folder while it's open then that can sometimes cause the green progress bar in the address bar to get stuck while it's moving. I made 3 mkv files which were saved to the new folder while it was closed and then I opened the new folder. All was ok. I verified the integrity of the 3 mkv files by using mkvalidator. They are ok and they are not corrupted.

    Next I copied the 3 mkv files to an external hard disk. The file copy succeeded but after that the green progress bar showed in the address bar of windows explorer of the external hard disk and it's stuck moving left to right. I logged out of windows and I signed back in and I checked the external hard disk. It was ok and there was no stuck green progress bar in the address bar.

    Long ago mkvtoolnix made a corrupt hevc mkv file and that also caused the green progress bar to get stuck in the address bar but back then the stuck green progress bar in the address bar came back when I restarted the laptop and also I wasn't able to copy the mkv file to an external hard disk. Thus now it's different from the past when the green progress bar was stuck in the address bar due to a corrupted mkv file. I think that something in the background like maybe the anti virus auto scan is interfering and it's not letting windows explorer read the mkv file. As I said, I wasn't able to delete the first mkv file that I made. Or is the problem because of a windows issue? Sometimes windows explorer can take a long time to open a media folder. The weird thing is that the problems happens when I make a hevc mkv file and there were no problems in the past when I made an avc mkv file.

    If you're concerned about file integrity copying to an external device, zip the file first and unzip when received;
    the program will tell you if it's been corrupted since it does a CRC check

  3. Check your filesystem:
    Execute
    Chkdsk C: /F
    in a admin command prompt and, when that is finished, reboot.

  4. This type of problem usually happens when the shell extension that builds thumbnail images (icons for Explorer) gets stuck (because it can't decompress the a video properly). Since it still has the video opened for read access the file can't be deleted. Since it is stuck the file can't be deleted until you reboot or kill the shell process. Try setting Explorer to Details mode instead of one of the Icon modes (before opening the problematic folder).
