Okay, first ever question and probably a dumb one. Captured Video files to my harddrive also includes .avi.A.index, .avi.index, and .avi.scn files. can these just be deleted or are they needed? thx

It depends on which operating system you're on, which software you use, you should include that with this kind of a question.
my guess is these are project files, and are deleted when you delete the project, so you don't have to pay any attention to these files,
but like i said, this is a (wild) guess, because you didn't give any detailed information, this will generate more guesses, and questions towards you.
So the question is not dumb, but typical for some one who just made an account.
