  1. I downloaded some mpeg files and attempted to play them via windows media player 7. They show up as audio files. How can I tell what codec I need to play these?

    Thanks

You will have to install a software DVD player which includes the mpeg2 codecs. This should help you.

Mpeg1 your PC should play if you have Windows Media PLayer or similar installed.

Mpeg2 your PC will play, once you have downloaded a software DVD Player.

Mpeg4 (DivX) you will have to download yourself to play.

I can't think of a software utility that can define what you need - usually they just say "no filters/codecs found".

  5. Check out the Elecard Mpeg2 player at

you can also download the decoder software that will allow your MediaPlayer play some mpeg2 files.
