  1. Hi All, I'm brand new at ripping DVDs. I've been trying to rip DVDs with SmartRipper, then DVDx v. 1.7. My resulting mpeg's quality is extremely disappointing, not even up to VHS standards (pixelated images). I've been using the settings suggested in the various guides listed on this and other sites.

Is my resulting mpeg's quality related to the version of DirectX that I have installed? Would the quality improve if I upgrade to a new version of the DirectX, such as DirectX v.8? By the way, what are templates and how do I use them?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  2. Your problem is nither the ripping or the VCD settings, it's the fact you are using DVDx to encode, and from all encoders, it's quality is below standard, which is why most people who use it, use it for the plugins ability.

It would also be recommended you update your DirectX to v8.1 as it contains many speed improvments.

  3. Hi Sefy,

Thanks for the reply. After reading what you wrote, I read one of your newbie guides and started to use TMPG instead of DVDx. And the results have been wonderful.

    Thanks again!
