Can one make Avidemux convert to an identical Aspect Ratio as the source?

Hi,

I am using Avidemux v2.8.0 on an Apple Mac running Catalina.

And converting videos in mp4 into MPEG-4 Simple Profile.

I selected mpeg-4 ASP (xvid).
Aspect ratio 4:3 (PAL).
Encoding Mode: Adv. Simple Level4
Encoding mode: Two Pass - Average Bitrate
Average Bitrate (kb/s): 1500

The conversions have approximately the same aspect ratios as the original videos.
Some are identical.
But some are a lot different.
And some are cropped, for example, missing a section at the bottom.

Is there a way to make Avidemux convert to exactly the same Aspect Ratio as the original video?

You must specify the same AR as the source, g.e. 4:3, 16:9, 1:2.35 and so on

Thank you for your advice.

I made some test conversions.
I checked their source AR beforehand.

Despite that, some of the conversions do not have the same AR.

So, I am hoping there is a way Terminal can force Avidmux to convert to EXACTLY the same as the source.

Might be useful to upload one of the original vids before you attempted to convert.


But if I read you correct you want every video to be 4:3. It can be done quite easily but it is not an automatic process. And better to use one of your vids than anyone else's.
