Can anyone help me out here

I've been trying to turn my DVD player region-free using the hack described in this site (using a palm pilot, the OmniRemote software and the HEX codes). However, it did not work!.

Does anyone know any other way of doing this using the remote control?. Can anyone tell me where I can find an Omniremote style to do this? (I tried the one in http://dev0_2000.tripod.com/ but did not work either!).
