How much quality do I lose if I use TMPGnc (or Ulead VideoStudio) to convert to an already compressed file (SVCD) to Compress to VCD (Mpeg-1).

This would be oppossed to recapturing to get the footage in it's original format (before SVCD compression), then just make the VCD from that.

Unless your original SVCD is very very high quality ( no macro blocks ), your targeted VCD will not be very good, because you are actually re-encoding an MPEG file which already has visible macroblocks and artifacts.

If your SVCD was, ( in theory ) perfectly clean, then your VCD would look very good but not as sharp as the SVCD because of the lower VCD resolution of 352x240 NTSC ( or 352x288 PAL ) .

    You're downscaling from 480x480 to 352x240.
