  1. Sorry, new at this, I am trying to gain info via the already posted info, but am having trouble.

    Ripped with Smartripper.
When I encode the video using DVD2AVI I end up getting turqoise horizontal bars showing up every other frame or so when I preview it before compressing in TMPGEnc. These bars are not there when I preview the video in DVD2AVI before I run it through that program. The force film is NOT checked. What settings should I use in these two programs to fix the problem ?!

There are so many things to tweak, I am not sure where to start.

I am using the NTSC SVCD template in TMPGEnc

    Thanks.

  2. in dvd2avi, load the vobs files and preview it (f5), what video type is it?

is it FILM, progressive or NTSC, interlaced? make sure you look at it throughout the entire movie as the movie type might change

what u can try is to FORCED FILM in dvd2avi and use the NTSC FILM template (not NTSC template) in tmpgenc...this may solve your problem if dvd2avi indicates that the movie is mainly FILM, progressive

get back to me if it's NTSC, interlaced

  3. When I preview the film in DVD2AVI it says the following
Video Type : Film (95% or so)
    Frame Type: Progressive

According to your directions I should use the forced film in DVD2AVI
and then the NTSC film template in TMPGE. I'll give it a shot this afternoon and see what comes out. Thanks so much, I'll keep you posted.

Should I be playing with the interlace or non-interlace or the A frame or
B frame order yet or will the NTSC film template take care of that ?

  4. when ever u use forced film in dvd2avi, tmpgenc will automatically make the source non-interlaced...in terms of field order (there is a correct field order), however its kinda different depending on which version of tmpgenc u have...i have very old version so the "A" and "B" field order might be different than yours...prolly wanna ask someone else for that..

but yes..since it's 95% FILM, then it's OK to treat it as pure FILM...just force film and NTSC FILM template
