  1. Magewell has added support for HDR. I'm a little confused on how to get HDR signal and go about recording it.

    Capture Card: Magewell 4K Plus

    Article Announcing HDR Support: http://www.magewell.com/6377.html

    1. The part I'm getting a little confused on is the EDID file and how to generate or obtain one. I want to use my PS4 Pro to capture HDR footage.
    2. Once I obtain a EDID file how do I import such file into the 4K Plus Capture?
    3. Finally what 3rd party software can capture HDR? Would software like amarectv or VirtualDub (or VirtaulDub 2 ongoing Open Source development) work?

    - Thanks

It appears that currently, Magewell is not making the HDR enhancement available to anyone but software developers.

From the article that you linked to:
The HDR enhancements for 4K, HDMI-connected Pro Capture Plus cards are available immediately to developers, with end-user software to follow.
The article that you linked to also indicates that there is currently no software available to use this new feature.
HDR capture and recording will also require HDR-enhanced software applications. In addition to anticipated support from third-party vendors, Magewell will provide a sample application for testing and development, and plans to add HDR recording capabilities to a future version of its own Capture Express software. Captured files can then be played back on HDR10-compliant devices through compatible playout hardware or software.
Be patient. The announcement was made only 6 days ago.

The Press Release announcement was just made 6 days ago. The firmware/Driver for HDR support was released in December. I was hoping to start recording in HDR sooner then later.

I don't think that can happen at the moment unless you are able to write your own software and can convince Magewell to provide you with the resources for updating your device's EDID to include the new feature.

After talking to two people both working with HDR one being Magewell support staff. Magewell said HDR can be done now with any EDID that has HDR enabled and imported to the capture card without the need of the SDK. Magewell uses Mi TV, Other devices like HDFury and such will work too.

This is a direct quote from Magewell:

"If you have the ability or the experience on how to preview the HDR signal, you do not need to wait for our SDK."

I also came across this comment on a gaming site about HDR 4K capturing:

" we had to make sure lossless capture would finally be possible with Amarec. We installed a faster SSD and it did the trick"

I don't know how to do it, but I guess Magewell is suggesting that you obtain an EDID INF file from one of the other devices which accept HDR video.

It looks to me like there is information in the Magewell Pro Capture user manual about using the driver properties dialog window to replace the EDID with a new one. You should probably save the existing EDID before experimenting.

I have no idea how to configure AmarecTV to capture HDR metadata. Maybe you should ask the guys who posted about 4k HDR capture on the other forum.
