I have a AIW range 128 pro card and have found that when I play back a capture I make with it the audio sounds like someone sttod to close to the mike.

Accourding to the ATI web site they amit that there is a problem with the AIW and audio cards (they don't say what card(s) but I have a no name 8 bit ISA one which did not give me problems when I use the AWI to capture from my camcorder) and that they are "working on the problem."

Well, Any anybody out there have the same problem and found an answer?

  2. Sounds like your audio is distorting. Remember that the audio input level of a PC sound card is a lot lower than the audio output of most hi-fi/video gear. Therefore you need to attenuate it a bit to stop the distortion. Use a simple audio mixer to reduce the audio levels a bit before feeding them into your sound card (or the audio in on the ATI card) and this shoudl solve your problems ... it did with me!

It sounds like you have the record level too high. You need to go to the audio control panel and set your record level.
    1. Open your Volume control
    2. Click on Options then Properties
    3. Under adjust volume for click on recording and press ok.
    4. This opens up your recording control, you can now adjust the Line In volume.

I also had the same problem and this fixed it.

  4. Yes, but that doesn't always work. You could have the audio level really low and still get a lot of distortion. This is where reducing the input level before it hits the PC will help.

Thank you for the replies - I'll be trying them.

But, the hard part will be is that I won't be able to tell if they work untill I playbcak the capture.

For as the recording is being made the audio is OK, its only when playing back (no matter what player) the resulting MPEG file that the sound problem is heard.

Yes, I had the same problem. Just do short one minute captures and check those out. Better yet use the UV metering of your sound card software to give you an indication of incoming audio levels.
