    Hi

AFAIK the .dat file on the VCD is still a regulasr mpg1 file. Throw it into any mpeg1 player, and it will plaback.

Nero is accepting it as a valid solid file for VCD.

    Hope that helped

Another method that works for VCD and SVCD:

    1) Use CDRWIN to make a bin/cue image of your VCD or SVCD.
    2) Use "vcdxrip -b videocd.bin" to extract all MPEG files, plus to create an XML description that shows the structure of your VCD or SVCD.

Vcdxrip is part of the VCDImager toolset. Latest version is 0.7.8.

  8. If all you want to do is convert a DAT file on a VCD back to standard MPEG-1, just use VCDGear. Load up the dat (on the VCD), save as MPEG-1 on your HDD.

You have the added option of correcting MPEG errors as well. This takes no longer than copying the DAT file onto your HDD and does not impact on the quality.

The DAT file is not the MPEG-1 file with another extension so this step should be done.

If you want to do more than just extract a single DAT file, CornelisJ had a good suggestion.

    Regards.
