Like the title says....I have a 60GB HEVC 4k video. It's a .mkv. I would like to 'shrink' it to 40GB. I completely understand that image loss and settings to use are subjective and fluid but I'm thinking a 30% size reduction would be acceptable to my eyes on a 4k video.

I've looked but can't find specific concise tutorials on what programs to use and what setting to use (as a general baseline). Any direction - especially to a tutorial or a single program - would be appreciated if any exist.

My PC is fast but maybe still not fast enough for this tech. i7-5960x....a couple SSD's to transcode from one to the other and several large HDD's for storage.

    Thanks.

  2. I didn't want to be the one to answer, because I'm sure there are much better ways to do this. But I've never used an x265 gui except my own. First use the program mediainfo to find the bitrate of your file. use two thirds of that bitrate in the gui and you should get your target file size.
(there is a download button on the top right of the screen)

    32bit

instructions on how to use the gui are towards the bottom of this thread:
